Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has proposed that the St. Andrew's Church in Kyiv be handed over for permanent use to the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.

"The president supports the aspiration to get a tomos [on the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church] as soon as possible. In solidarity with this move, he makes a symbolic gesture. Shortly, the Verkhovna Rada [Ukraine's parliament] will register a presidential bill, which proposes to pass the St. Andrew's Church to the Ecumenical Patriarch for permanent use," Ukrainian MP, representative of Ukrainian president in the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Lutsenko said during the Conciliation Council of the chairs of factions and parliamentary committees on October 16.

According to the lawmaker, it "will be a symbolic gesture of unity with the mother of churches."
