Building collapses in downtown Kyiv
A non-residential building collapsed on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street in the center of Kyiv, press secretary of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko Oksana Zinovyeva informed.
One person is reported to have been trapped under the ruins, and five have been evacuated.
Criminal investigation has been opened following the accident under paragraph 2 of Art. 271 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of occupational safety law), according to the report.
Pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Shevchenko district police department of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Kyiv.
As reported, several floors have collapsed in one of the failing buildings on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street in the center of Kyiv during repairs today. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the construction work had been carried out in breach of safety regulations and without any permits.
